THE WILDERNESS
There is a Great Wild in you. Do you feel it? Gnarled and feral, it is made of all the dark and tangled spaces that comprise nightmares, fears, chaos, and lack. It is a body of yearning that seems antithesis to desire, a counterpoint to production, and a strike against forward movement. What is this Wilderness?
It is You.
Do you know your own Greatness? There are multitudes of multitudes inside You. The Great All knows you in your every essence and thought. Your Wilderness is liken to your Being as is your Sunlight and Glory . . . necessary, but more secretly kept. It is the cobbler’s bench, the writer’s sheaf, the artist’s board. It is where you go to work.
Make peace with your Wilderness. Praise its darkness and confusion. Ask it to show you the language of its gnarls: what its twists and turns and shadows cast in your life and how it adds strength. The Earth does not thrive in sunlight alone, nor do You.
When you understand your own fear, you have compassion for another’s. When you feel adrift in chaos, you are not so quick to reprimand your neighbor for his own. And feeling lack in your own life helps you to see it outside yourself. Wildness cannot be understood through what is sterile. Wilderness cannot be understood through what is controlled.
What do you control?
Do you control Your Self? How so? How tangled is your Wilderness with the Wilderness next door? How great is the forest? How great are You?
You seek to sit in the sunshine, yes, but how often do you seek to sit in your Wilderness . . . seeing it merely for what it is? This is no destructive force, but a counterpoint. Do not seek to understand the world through only one eye. Open your eyes. Open your heart. Let the world in.
When you let the world in, as it is, you let in the Wilderness. The Wilderness can show you what society has taught you to un-learn. Relearn this.
You are part of all, a sentient among sentients: not separate from.
Not separate from....
