ILLUSION VERSUS DENIAL
Fundamental differences exist between Illusion and Denial—and yet, they are remarkably the same. When you are in Denial about something, one tool you might apply to blind yourself is Illusion. When you allow Illusion to blind you, you give Denial permission to hold back or cover over the Truth.
Illusion is often manifest in group-mind and Denial is more often personal and singular. When you uncover Illusion, you might find that there is also a layer of Denial lying beneath it, awaiting your notice. Why is it we put these fail-safes between ourselves and the Truth?
Let us say that you labor with the Illusion that one perceived group in your society is less-than or greater-than other groups. You have been taught this Illusion from birth. Once you are a free-thinking adult who is influenced outside your own culture, you come to decide that this young thinking is false and so discard it—only to find that underneath the Illusion, you are still in Denial of the Truth. Why? Would embracing the Truth cause you to create uncomfortable changes in your Life?
Do you accept that part of the Illusion is True and part is False? So, do you therefore Deny part and accept part of the Illusion? This Belief structure had led to atrocities the world over, for as long as humankind has lived.
If you harbor an Illusion that some peoples are less-than you or your peoples, do you believe that doing them harm is less harmful than doing ‘your own people’ harm? Do you believe that to steal from a person who has stolen from you is not actually stealing?
Do you believe that your action, the action of one, does not matter in this world—that you are immune to the rules—or worse, not subject to what you say you believe, a hypocrite?
Under what Illusions do you labor? Who are the ‘good guys’? Who are the ‘bad guys’? Are you ever one of the ‘bad guys’? Do you know how your thinking and beliefs arose, and why they persist?
What do you Deny? In how many problems do you contribute? In how many solutions do you contribute? Day-to-day, how honest are you? How compassionate? Are you a good neighbor?
Illusions are often the pretty pictures that we paint over ugly things, and sometimes they are merely pretty, empty things—distractions; whereas, Denial is more often the ugly things we keep caged, pretending they are not there. We do best without Illusion and Denial. We are cleaner and more free; closer to Truths.
Look to your Self today. Study what you Believe. What is Illusion? What do you Deny? Identifying these lies is the first step in correcting them.
