 TOTALITY II

As you enjoy a cup of hot tea, how do you interact with the many activities that have brought it to your door? Do you think of the cup and its saucer? Do you think about the mining for the porcelain ingredients, the design, the molding, the firing, and painting, the transportation, the changing hands of wholesalers, and the final retailer? Maybe you bought the cup and saucer in an antique shop, and it has enjoyed many owners.

And the tea? Who broke the ground? Who planted the bush? What gifts did nature share to bring the tea plant to fruition? Who picked the leaves, sorting and drying and classifying them? How did the tea come to the place where you bought it? And what did you have in your tea? Sugar? Milk? Honey? Cinnamon? How did they come to be present with you?

We can think about the Totality of things—or try to—only briefly, and occasionally. But, we can give thanks from the point at which we find our selves interacting with a person, place, or thing. Just like the tea, and its components, each person you meet has a long and detailed history that brought them to the point of meeting.

Nothing is stagnant. Even when our bodies have entered the post-mortal-life circle, we are interacting in the environment. This is why with the faith of a mustard seed, or a single lily in the field, the Totality of All Creation has touched it, and will keep touching it. That is why whatever you do, think, or say, is reflected into Great All.

There is no small feat, no little gift, no tiny slight. Upon seeing the endpoint of light somewhere afield, you must consider the star matter from which it came. Try looking into the Totality of just one thing today. How wide does the world open?
