PALISADES: PROTECTION VERSUS POWER

OBSERVING FROM WITHIN

  PALISADES: PROTECTION VERSUS POWER

          - How false walls restrict intuitive views

Palisades, defensive walls,

help those settled within their boundaries

to feel safe, but what is the condition of ‘safeness’ and

how does accepting blindness and/or limited views create a

comfortable, confident adjustment?

Suzie S. was taught from pre-verbal ages that dogs were frightening and dangerous. She need only see a photo of a dog, a rendering of a dog, hear the name 'dog,' or worst of all, see a dog in action on the television, even a dog who seems kind and cuddly, and she reacts in a negative, self-harming manner.

Her parents and her family (traumatized by dogs in their past) have created a Palisade for her, a dense wall that pronounces she is safe—as long as the wall stays intact and she remains in her space within.

How she views the world, her family, her life, and her self, is all colored by the Palisade erected for her and maintained by frightened but well-meaning caretakers. In addition to dogs, how does she feel about other animals? How, and to what extent does she color her beliefs, even when being given—or self-discovering—information regarding dogs that contradicts her programming?

Perhaps your own Palisades are not so simple or obvious.

Perhaps there is a divide in your beliefs between how the world values you and how you value your self. Perhaps there is a divide between what is possible and what is impossible. Between comfort and scarcity. Between health and illness.

In your life, at this very moment, what lives inside your Palisades, and how do those beliefs compare (contradict/ confirm) one to the other, directing your every thought, belief, behavior, and creative fire?

Within your Palisade, do you look outside to see others who are more ‘desirable,’ wealthier, more accomplished, better educated or traveled? Do you believe that the hard boundary between what-and-who you believe you are cannot be removed short of a miracle—that you, your self, are lacking in the powers required to remove the barrier and thrive?

· What, as a human, do you believe you can accomplish in this lifetime?

· Will you meet your goals? How lofty are those goals?

· Do you consider your goals mere dreams, conjectures, or wishes?

· Do you envision your future accomplishments paired with all the reasons you fail—that you aren’t enough—no matter how you work to improve your self?

The first step in creating any improvement is to recognize your barriers. You are enough. You have perpetual help. Say this until you believe it from the center of your bones, where the Song of Self shifts to the new music.

While improvements must sometimes be calibrated, (will you be a prima ballerina, an astronaut, or the world’s fastest race car driver?) your Soul has planned for what you mean to gain while human. There is a plan in place, and that plan is flexible enough to change as your world changes, and as your priorities change with gained wisdom.

Be alert to your own ‘moles,’ the enemies you create within the Self/self. Clarify why you want what you want, who you are, what you are, and what you project you will be as you exit this mortal life.

More is attainable than you believe is possible,

because you are more than you believe is possible.

Is today not a delightful time to open the gate in your Palisades and study what you’ve placed just out of reach on the other side? Stop living in a shrunken environment. Live large and bright and boldly.

Blessed Be This Day
