RELEASE
What do you keep locked away and why? Are there memories locked behind the walls of
you that are dangerous or sad or so revolting that you have sworn to never look
at them again? Do you even know that
they are there, collapsed in the long dark backroads of your least traveled
selves? How many dens and warrens exist
inside you, harboring the unclean?
At the other end of the spectrum, how many memories,
ideas, and beliefs have you on pedestals and in gilded cages, feeding tidbits
from your hand? How many of those
honored captives sing to you in the night as you lay your head to rest? What is your dialogue with these shackled
guests and how likely is their departure?
How likely is their release?
Contemporary therapists have multitudinous and
complex systems for helping others to identify and rout out these
captives. While helpful, these therapies
must rely on the intellect and can consume long periods of time, especially
when the recipient of help is resistant to release or incapable of engaging
emotion—or when the therapist is incapable of helping them to engage their
emotions. And many cannot or will not
come to such aid.
In some religious systems, “Being Saved” or “Initiated,”
is quite often about Releasing: the
letting go of the world as it was, previous to accepting the new dogma of
thought and action. The tablet of life
is swept clean to be begun again.
Sometimes, the body is dramatically changed through ritual cleansing,
scarification, hair removal, tattooing, and the like. Robes and costumes are taken on. Language and idioms are accepted.
In the first case of a person working with a
therapist there is discovery and sometimes, correction and emptying; in the
second, release and substitution. What
happens for you, the Self-Seeker, when Release is sought? What fills that void when you Release
something that has long occupied a space inside you?
Pull a thorn from your foot and the wounded skin
heals the breach. Release old matter
from the digestive system through fasting and the natural energy returns. Take away the mind’s circular and
self-punishing thoughts and there is more time for creative pursuits. Disable self-lying and enable empowerment.
Do not worry over the presence of a void or even think
of Releasing in that way. When you
Release anything that has an impeding effect, homeostasis returns, and the
greater system takes care of itself.
Your Spirit has plans for every part of you and every function of you
and every attentuation. Conscious
thought is a bonus. Conscious Release is
the necessary action.
How does one Consciously Release? Seek Truth.
Most of what we hold on to and protect is shrouded in our own
mythology. When we bring it to the light
of Truth, we can see it for its mockery; immediately it loses its value. Once it loses value, it is easy to
Release. (Yes, it may creep back,
seducing us again, but it is easier to release a second, a third, and even a fourth time.)
Today, begin with one Belief that you hold to be
True. How does this Belief affect your
life, lifestyle, decision-making, self-image, and other Beliefs? Do you keep this Belief on a pedestal? What if you debunked this Belief? Take this Belief and expose it to the light
of Truth, methodically and without bias, as a neutral observer. What do you discover?
Let’s
use an example: “I’m
no good at communicating with others.”
Why you believe this: “When I
speak, people misunderstand me, and explaining does no good. I get frustrated and stop trying to
explain. I’m just no good at it.” Is this the Truth? Perhaps this person is so desperate to have
their concept or opinion heard, they aren’t really listening to the person to
whom they are speaking and therefore can’t hear how that person can ‘hear.’ For a moment, believe the opposite of the
Belief:
“I’m
very good at communicating with others.”
What does this look like: I
carefully watch how people speak and listen and find a common ground by which I
may communicate with them. I invite them
to engage in communication with me, rather than expounding upon my messages and
being determined to forcefully share what I’m thinking. How does this resolution change the way you
currently communicate with others? If
you Release your first Belief, the UNtruth, and adapt the second statement, how
might this improve your life and your sense of community?
The way to begin anything is right now. Today.
Make changes while the thought energy is fresh. Small changes made with regularity create more
change than large changes made “someday.”
If you want to better understand your world, better understand your
Self.
