INTELLECT VERSUS REASON
INTELLECT VERSUS REASON
~comparing data ~to~ process
Intellect is the combination of knowledge and experience. Higher than knowledge alone, Intellect allows us to peruse and reflect upon data. Reason examines and processes the data and helps us to make decisions.
Combining knowledge, memories, evidence, beliefs, intuition, and the greater determinants of Higher Mind, Reason is the active culmination of process. To apply Reason is not merely to use Intellect, but to direct the Intellect in gathering the data that Reason will consider.
Your Intellect may assure you that you are 20 years old, but your Reason will tell you where you are in the process of Life--what being 20 means--and in which areas you do well, or fall short. Intellect may label you an adult, but Reason will help you to determine what that means for you, inside your own time and your own culture.
Using Intellect alone is not possible, because making non-biased, non-informed, non-individual conclusions is not possible. Think back to your last significant decision: on what basis did you reach it? Under the initial Reasoning, look for the backlog of everything that supported that Reasoning: raw data, emotion, and intuition.
A Reason is not a justification or a singular Determinant. A Reason is a tapestry formed from many types of input, supported by Intellect, and perhaps initiated by Intellect, but complex and textural, and a reflection of who and what you are in the present.
You employ Reason in your every decision, so make sure that your Reason is well-informed, and as free of as many prejudices as you are able. What might you Reason about your Self? and your Present? and your trajectory ahead?
Value your Reason and feed it well and your Reason will well-feed you.
